The analysis of soils by particle size through these Standard Test Sieves provides a useful engineering classification system from which a considerable amount of empirical data can be obtained. Standard Test Sieves helps in ascertaining possible frost action, determining graded filters, selection of grouting materials, designing of cement and asphaltic concrete mixes, etc. Two different procedures are used for coarse and fine soils. Sieving is used for gravel as well as sand size particles and sedimentation. For soil containing coarse and fine soil particles, test sieves are useful to employ sieving procedures.

The Sieve Shaker is used to make the process of sieving easier and quicker. Riffle Sample Divider is required for the rapid collection of true representative samples from aggregates, sand and fillers. Riffle Sample Divider consists of a metal box fitted with a series of chutes of equal width which discharge the material alternatively in opposite directions into separate pans. The chutes of the rifle are steep enough to allow rapid flow of the material. The sample divider is supplied with two containers and a sampling scoop.
The density of hardened concrete specimens such as cubes and cylinders can be quickly and accurately determined using a Buoyancy Balance.
